Why there is some number written on my bank notes 224-30?

i withdraw a large amount in the bank and there is some number stamped in blue ink on the £20 notes 224-30 .... why is that?

Is is illegal to deface bank notes and yet shop and banks do it all the time. Security firms even spray the notes red when a bank box is stolen and opened.

  • That is to indicate that it is a forgery. If you want to send it to me I will get rid of it for you
  • banks tend to scribble things on notes when they're counting them up, Helps them keep track on how much is in each pile and stuff, nothing to worry about.
  • for piling purposes. it is not a problem.
