Is is illegal to deface bank notes and yet shop and banks do it all the time. Security firms even spray the notes red when a bank box is stolen and opened.

I payed by pay yourself machine in a supermarket. The machine failed to register my payment. My goods were?

Resolved Question

I payed by pay yourself machine in a supermarket. The machine failed to register my payment. My goods were?

confiscated in front of shoppers. I had to wait 24hrs for the machine to be checked. It was found faulty and my money was returned. Since I had no idea who was checking my money I had a anxious 24hrs waiting.
My question is; With these machines is it possible to end up with a criminal record just by going shopping?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

"Is it possible" = yes. many things are possible.

Has it ever happened ??? Not that I'm aware of, try google for newspaper reports ...

When you use a machine, of any type, there is a some element of risk .. we have all used vending machines that have 'eaten' our money & car park ticket machines that failed to issue a ticket (or a ticket that has not been printed). Even cash machines ('hole in the wall') have been known to dispense £10's instead of £20's .. (you only hear about the ones that give out £20's instead of £10's :-) ) ...

Plainly you have to balance the convenience against the consequences of machine failure .. this is why I avoid using automated check-outs at petrol stations or unattended check-outs at supermarkets ..

Will a shop take back this item?

Resolved Question

Will a shop take back this item?

I bought some leggings three weeks ago as a present but they didn't fit them so now I want to take them back. Most shops let you take them back before 4 weeks (it's only been three) but I've lost the reciept. I can tell them the exact day I went and I can also say that I bought a leather jacket on that day also but unfortunately I don't remember the name of the person that served me in the shop. The shop aws H&M do you think they'll let me take it back? I don't want to go all the way there just to change it to find that they won't let me!!! Thanks

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

they should let you return it but you will get store credit back.
don't expect getting any physical money.

  • They might not offer a refund without a receipt, but they will most likely permit you to make an even exchange for a different size or merchandise of equal value. I recommend calling them and asking. Then you'll know for certain.
  • They should let you, argue abit and say i want to see the manager. they'll soon take them back :)
  • who knows stop wasting your time here and try to take it back and then see what happens

Copyright question: Re-selling t-shirts?

Resolved Question

Copyright question: Re-selling t-shirts?

Me and my friend always have little random sayings or cartoons that we pretty much draw all over our shoes, bags, school books etc, but the other day our friend asked us to include his band name in one of them. We're now thinking about putting the slogans on t-shirts and then trying to sell them...advertising for us and them...
Also, would we have to contact the company who makes the t-shirts and ask for permission...?
As you can tell, we're pretty clueless, neither of us took business studies, and are just filling our lessons with little ideas :)

Thanks...

Dear Manager,

Does anyone how to claim lost mail posting to overseas sent by Royal Mail?

Resolved Question

Does anyone how to claim lost mail posting to overseas sent by Royal Mail?

I would like to claim lost mail posting to Italy. I have post the item by standard airmail parcel to Italy recently and have got the certificate of posting in hand. Could I just fill in the Lost, damaged, or delayed inalnd mail - claims form from the post office in stead?

Thank a million!!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

ftp://ftp.royalmail.com/Downloads/public…

Print off the above form, fill it in and send it off.

I'd like to add to the other answer who says that once its in Italy its no longer Royal Mail's responsibility.
This is partly true, but your claim is still treated in the same way, it will just take longer. Royal Mail deals with your claim, but they have to get in touch with the Italian Postal Service, and get them to make their inquiries. I also believe that they'll have to get in touch with the airline too.
After sending off your form, it may take a while to get any sort of response, but hold on - as I said, International mail takes a while to get a claim on, because it involves other third parties that Royal Mail has to deal with.

Print out the relevate form and send it to the Royal Mail. Make sure you provide the the info/evidence needed. When I claimed it was very quick.
  • When you say recently, how recently?

Double check the right thing to do with the post office, as you're saying the claims form is for 'inland' mail, i.e. not items sent abroad.
  • If it reached Italy, then it is no longer Royal Mail's responsibility.

  • The exact value is hard to determine because it is so new; however, I do predict that the value will rise in time because of high demand for the limited number available. You can check with a local coin expert or two, but do not sell it to the London Mint Office for they are a group of coin collectors/investors. I hope that helps.

How to calculate a quarterly moving average ?

2001 Q1 630
Q2 567
Q3 552
Q4 678

please for help
i have to do that for tommorowz
thanks x

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

Is there more to the question? Normally I would expect to see more than one year's worth of data to be able to do a 4 point quarterly average. Is there more data.

If not, you can average the figures given (630+567+552+678)/4 = 606.75 but that's not a moving average.

To give a 2 point moving average within the given data, you would use:
(630+567)/2 = 598.5
(567+552)/2 = 559.5
(552+678)/2 = 615

But that's not really what the question asked for.

Probably not much help, but best i can do with the info,

I need to post a 3.5 kg parcel to USA from UK?

Resolved Question

I need to post a 3.5 kg parcel to USA from UK?

I need to post a parcel weighing 3.5kg to USA from UK. Everywhere I look seems to be really pricey i.e. £60+. Does anyone know of a cheap way to send this item?

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

I often send gifts to a friend in the USA and find the best way is by normal parcel post if the contents are of little or no value. If you need to insure the contents against loss, then things get more expensive.

Obviously couriers like FedEx or DHL are FAR more expensive !

Other Answers (1)

  • None that I know of. The only way I've found of reducing the price is splitting up a parcel into two small parcels to get around weight limits.

I'm afraid Royal Mail Parcelforce is the cheapest option you are likely to find unless you can ask someone going on holiday to the USA to take the parcel with them and post it when the arrive.

Shipping heavy items outside of the European Union can be dreadfully expensive.

A big unjustified bill!!??!?

Resolved Question

A big unjustified bill!!??!?

Back in May my daughter (4 months at the time) got sick with a bug and was admitted to hospital for one night. At the time of admission we were asked if she was to be put as a private or public patient. As we have private health insurance with Vhi we agreed to the private option thinking everything would be covered.
I am not the policy holder, my father is, he lives in a different county altogether.
My daughter stayed for the total of one night, and was let home the following day. A while after we received a hospital bill for €980. I passed it onto the insurance company thinking no more of it.
Today, we received a letter from the insurance company (vhi) who say they are not paying the bill as new members (my daughter) must be a member for 26 weeks before you can claim for anything.
I agrued that I did not receive the terms and conditions, where it states the 26 weeks waiting period, as they were sent to the policy holder (my father) and that I thought it was unfair. If I had of known she was not covered then I would have never put her in as a private patient. They still stand firm that they are not paying the bill.
My daughter was in hospital for the total of one night. She didnt even drink or eat anything, we (her parents) didnt even have a cup of tea! She would have been given a private room anyway as she was deemed contagious.
Does this jusitfy a bill of €980??!!!
Do I have any come back??? I need advice as to what to do??

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

Unfortunately, it sounds like the insurance company are in the right. If it does say in their terms and conditions about the 26 week period and they were sent to the policy holder (your father) it's not the insurance company's fault that you didn't know.

You could try contacting the hospital, explaining the position, and see if there's any way of reducing the bill or spreading the payment out over a period of time so it's not as big a lump to pay in one as they will have probably charged it at a premium thinking that the insurers were paying out. But apart from that I don't see what else you can do.

Question: You are a trainee manager on the trainee manager scheme. Your Human Resources manager?

Question: You are a trainee manager on the sainsbury's trainee manager scheme. Your Human Resources manager has asked you to do a detailed personal development plan. They will like this to be finished by the end of the day. The produce department manager is short staffed and struggling to ensure there is good availability of products on the shelves. They also have asked if you will come and help them out today. Both jobs require a whole day to complete.
1) What is the best course of action to take first? and
2) What is the worst course of action to take first?

a) Complete your personal development plan as the human resources manager has asked you.
b) Do half a day in the produce department and half a day working on your personal development plan.
c) Help on produce, it is really important to make sure there is good availability pf product.
d) Ask the human resources manager which they would prefer you to do.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

None of the above.
Put in some unpaid overtime after finishing at the produce department then work on the plan then pull down the Resource Managers pants part his cheeks and start licking.

Seriously though i would say A because its the Resource Managers job to ensure there are staff where they're needed.

Other Answers (5)

  • What's best for the business?

From a business point of view the priority must be to get produce onto the shelves to sell so tell the produce manager you'll help but ask him to have a word with the HR manager and explain that you had to help him and not do the personal development plan which you will do tomorrow.

That would show good management skills and the ability to recognise priority and non-priority tasks.
  • I would seriously delegate - if you are training to be a manager - you are training to be a leader. I would say that you would be willing to help partly in the fresh produce department as soon as you finish a priority job allocated to you- you can either have a future in the company or you can be a nobody that everyone loves because you are always willing to help to your detriment..
  • None of those

Ask the HR Manager if they can give you more time, as you are the trainee manager and (as would all good managers) your priority would be to help your team.

It would be beneficial all round, as this would allow you more time to think carefully about your 'detailed personal development plan' rather than rush through it.
  • Methinks YOU'RE supposed to answer that.
  • d) would be the best course, b) would be the worst course

As a manager trainee, you wouldn't be reporting to the produce manager unless you have been specifically told to do so. More likely, your job status would mean that you answer to human resources.

As a manager in training, you should also realize that having a good availability of product would be very important to the company. The human resources manager needs to be aware of this situation, so you should explain it to him, and ask him what action you should take. That would make d) the best answer. It would be better than a) because it would involve making sure the correct information is used in making the decision. It would be better than c) because you would be trying to meet expectations. b) would be the worst choice because niether job would get done; if each job takes a full day, working half a day on each would get nothing finished.

Can i send money to america by internet banking?

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

Unlikely by internet transfer, to a bank account. If you call into a branch of your bank, you can fill in an International Bank Transfer form. You will need proof of your ID, and bank details of the American bank; account number, SWIFT/IBAN codes. There is an option to choose next day, or standard transfer, taking about a week.

  • There are a few ways you can send money out to America:

    1. Internet Banking - It takes anything up to 5 days to transfer. The regular bank charge is about £20 to send the funds. The exchange rates are not great, so your girlfriend will get less money in her account.

    2. Western Union - It is much quicker to send money through them, but they will normally charge quite a high commission fee.

    3. Currency broker - I find they are usually the best way to go about sending money abroad. It takes between 1 - 3 days to send the money, but there are no commissions or sending charges. Their exchange rates are almost Always better than the banks. I usually use a company called Sterling Exchange.

Who sent this UPS package?

Resolved Question

Who sent this UPS package?

I got an email from UPS that gave me a tracking number for some package that is on its way to me. I didn't order anything, and I don't see anywhere that says who sent it. Is there any way for me to find out where this package is coming from or what it is? Or do I have to just wait until i receive it?

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

Go to ups.com

Find the section for tracking. Use the tracking number, it will give you a list of all the times and places the package was scanned. The first one will be either when the package was entered into their system, or when it was first picked up, depending on the size of the company that sent it. This information will give you the city that it was sent from. It may or may not say who sent it, but knowing the city may give you a clue.

How do you deal with indirect aggression among women in the work place?

Resolved Question

How do you deal with indirect aggression among women in the work place?

I generally tend to avoid women, I've had too many experiences with 'girl hate' (indirect aggression from women) and tend to get on far better with men anyway.

In the workplace it's a different matter, girl hate is worse in work than in social situations, in some places (offices, call centres) it's not much different to the sort of problems you'd get with high school girls attacking each other indirectly, and most female managers are far more aggressive towards other women.

I just don't know how to deal with it, because it's 'indirect' it's not something that you can complain about without something really solid, girl hate isn't healthy but how the hell do you get other women to realise that?

hahaha talking to HR... that's like going to teacher and complaining.. when did that ever work... only makes the hate more insidious

im a guy so i don't really get women at all.. i just know that u cant ever win a fight with one.. or least i never have.

all i can say is keep ur head down and ur opinions to yourself

  • Talk to HR / Personal --That's what they're for to help deal with situations before they get the point where disciplinary action is needed

  • Just let them get on with it. Bitching is the self-constructed glass ceiling for the vast majority of females at work.

  • Talking to HR or personnel is fine if you have a big problem or proof of broken rules/discrimination etc. But to go to them and say "I don't like the way these girls behave" will make you look like a wimp and a troublemaker.
All you can do is try to rise above it all. You have to show some sign of trying to get along with colleagues even if you'd prefer not to. Just walk away from any conversation that you don't like. This sort of thing happens in many places where a lot of girls work together - it's like there's some sort of competition going on between them and they're all out to discredit others by any means possible just to make themselves look better. You have to learn to deal with it, but unless you make some effort to get along with these people you will always be a target.
