Could somebody recommend a reputable shipping company in UK - I want to order some goods from abroad but I need a third party to oversee the process. (the company do not ship direct to UK)Preferably a company that you have used. Thanks

Thank you Esther for answering my query. I managed to order the item through fityone which is a company the retailer uses for international mail order. Set me back £33.00 in shipping & duty. I also found two other companies internationalcheckout.com & myusa.com. Internationalcheckout.com's fees were more expensive. The other required an annual registration fee. I've used Bongo International for a couple of years now. They are not the only one out there but I have had a good experience with them. I registered for a lifetime US address on http://www.bongous.com.

I am in AU but they ship to over 220 countries including the UK and have really quick transit times.
What sets them apart in my mind is that you can order from multiple websites at a time and they consolidate everything for free. Saves you money on shipments by packing it smartly.

What is the impact on the business if the licence was not renewed?

It seems to me that without a license your business is not operating legally. There are many sorts of licenses and permits for businesses and not knowing your type of business it is hard to say. If you own a restaurant or bar and lose your license, you are out of business. If you forgot to renew your selling permit or sales tax number, you can keep operating while you get them renewed.

How hated are Bankers? Are the the new Traffic Wardens?

Just had 2 letter 1 from Egg Credit and 1 from Virgin Money, both saying they will be increasing my APR to around 26%! they advertised typical APR of 18% since the Credit Crunch i have seen my credit limit decrease my repayments increase,
and they have pulled sly little tricks like on Virgin stopping Balance transfers without notifying me,

Im not reckless i always pay on time , the only reason im in debt is redundancy and poo employers not paying me on time,
are the bankers shafting the regular people or is it just me that thinks that?

I agree wholeheartedly - bankers have shafted us twice, make profit and line their own pockets instead of repaying us - the taxpayers that bailed them out. They have overtaken Estate Agents of the 80's for me, who played homebuyers off against each other with gazumping, we were caught in the middle paying for their clapped out porsches. Credit Unions are the way forward.

my book says the cost of goods sold should be 35,000 and the profit 36,000. How did they come up with that sum?

cost of sales = opening stock + purchases - closing stock (32k + 35k - 32k) = 35k

Gross profit = sales - cost of sales (71k - 35k) = 36k

Someone else opened my mail.....?

i am staying at my boyfriends place (he lives on site in a staff house where he works) and i was snowed in here so i asked for a certain letter to be delivered to the staff house as it needed filling in and returned asap. For starters, Royal Mail delivered it the resturaunt and NOT the staff house. then my boyfriends Manager opened my letter, read it, and redirected it. i have contacted the police who say will ring me within 48 hours, and royal mail, who will be getting back to me. does anyone know what may happen now? His manager could use the excuse that he didnt know who i was. but he does. i used to rent a property with my partner on the same site and used to see his manager everyday so he knows damn well who i am even if he denies it. please help. im so angry it was personal information.

Contact your local post office. It's a federal offense to open someone else's mail. Regarless if you know the person or not. It didn't have your boyfriend's name on or anyone else in that mans employ. He had no right to open that. If he was that confused as to where it went, he could have just written on the envelope that you didn't live there and returned it to the sender. If he knew you though he should have just given it to you.

you can look in the front of your yellow pages and you find the number for your local postal inspectors office and you let them tell. The postal inspectors are federal agents empowered by all federal laws to make arrest for any kind of fraud pertaining to the postal system.

Cover at work? Is this taking it too far?

A colleague of mine (receptionist) is going on holiday on Saturday and the majority of the office have said the managers are going to have to get some cover. I found out that im the one to do it. Ive never done reception work before and Im apparently doing my own accounts work as well and when the receptionist comes back off her hols, she is in the office for 1 week then off sick for 3 months as she is having an operation. Im expected to cover that as well. I think this is taking the mick a little as she is on loads more money than me and Ive got targets to meet for year end. Not only that, I go to college on Wednesdays and also on holiday. She asked me if i could cancel those hols, i said no chance, its been booked for over a year!!
I think they are taking the mick a little - do you think i should see the general manager and express my concerns saying im not doing all that for 2 week and 3month as well as my own job and get paid for it. They said theyve asked me because they cant afford a temp so thats probably out of the question. Everyone in the office (except management and receptionist) think this wrong and its coming across as if i just sit at my desk all day doing nothing but at the minute (with it being year end) its the busiest its ever been. Can anyone suggest what i should do, im doing two jobs and still stay on the same wage!!!

I suggest that you go to management and suggest the following:
1. As the receptionist job is a full-time position, you will be unable to do that as well as provide adequate coverage of your current accounts. Therefore, you suggest that
2. They assign your current accounts to other employees for as long as you are working as the receptionist. This will spread the workload over many people and should not cause a significant problem

Then sit back and see what happens. The people they want to dump your current accounts on are going to be very upset that they have to take on additional duties just because the receptionist is going on vacation and out on sick leave. They will all complain to management that it's not fair and that a temp should be hired. You will not look bad because you are willing to take the receptionist job but don't want your current accounts to be short-changed.

If management does not agree to spread your accounts around to other employees, ask them which job is more important to them? Do they want you to ignore your accounts when you're busy doing the receptionist job or ignore the receptionist job when you're busy with the accounts? You can only do one thing at a time and want to do whatever they think is best. In other words, put the burden on them to decide which is more important.

Do NOT complain about doing two jobs as you can obviously do only one at a time. Either they spread your accounts around to others or they have to decide which job you actually complete.

Dazzle white sent me an email claiming i was eligible for a free trial kit but pay for $2 post so like an idiot believing them i entered in my card details all of a sudden the price shot up to $14 the next day i wanted to cancel this i contact them by now they had given my card details to a third party who enlisted me automatically on a magazine contract worth £30 a month every month with club fitness So i contacted them look i said I'm not paying for a magazine contract oh they said its in the terms of service i read the terms and conditions i said look I have just read the terms of service and there is no mention of magazines what the the hell does magazine have to do with a free sample of teeth whiting gel? I said look who are you to order magazines with my card oh they say you will have to ring them up and cancel like its my problem.

So i do and cancel the magazine subscription now to the teeth whitening look i say this is just a con i want my money back and i want to cancel this sorry your shipment has already been posted because you have cancelled your service the free trial will now cost $86 i said no way i am not going to pay that they said OK look after you get your trial in the post Send it back back to us and you wont be charged any payment

fine i said a month goes by no trial in the post i contact them oh its lost in the post they say it will be there in a few days i wait until the end of the month my card is charged i contact them again

i say look i haven't received any product of you where is my refund you have had a month and a half to post it and i have not received anything oh sorry even if you sent it back you wouldn't get a refund we don't give refunds sorry so i been robbed £35 in total of charges on my card and received no item i have chases it up and up I have reported them to trading standards and the government websites but

all they sent me was just a bit of advice about how not to fall victim to scams in the future they don't even care i have been robbed i am having to try and get my own back why its my money been taken away for no reason they have caused me a lot of stress and wasted a lot of my time til this date i have not received anything from them i paid for post 16 november 2009

please help am i entitled to any compensation of them what are my rights nobody seems to care i was robbed i sent my card a detailed letter about what happened but no reply been week and a half now please help.

As the company is USA based.
Search for what ever the USA equivalent is to the UK trading standards. If you know their location, consider contacting a local newspaper..
In the meantime contact your card company to ensure that this company can not take further payments. Request a new card with a new number.

• Get yourself a prepaid credit card such as 3vcash. I use one for on line purchases after having my fingers burnt like you. You can only spend what is on the card and these companies cannot take the p*ss by charging continual amounts for ever more that never cease.

i know to work out the net profit ratio you divide the net profit by the sales ie £18,000/£30,000 = 60%, but what if the net profit is at a loss ie (£500), how is the ratio worked out?

Most genuine companies that ship out of Hong Kong will state which method of posting they use and supply you with a tracking number so you can check on the progress. Delivery can be as long as 28 days as it has to go through two lots of customs. Depending on the item you may have to pay import duty. Small items are usually marked as "gifts" and get through customs with no problem.
If you have not got a tracking number then I'd email and ask for one. If you don't get a reply then I'd start to worry a bit.
I buy computer parts and the odd piece of camera equipment from China.

Have you been paid by your employer this month?

At 9am this morning, I found out that my employer, Meter-U (part of Spice Group plc) has not paid my monthly salary into my bank account, nor has it paid any of my colleagues. The payroll staff seem to be oblivious to this and can provide no explanation.

This would seem to indicate financial trouble with both Meter-U and its parent company Spice Group plc, which in these troubled financial times is more than a little worrying.

Bankruptcy here I come!

Additional Details

Just checked the TUC website, and they state that non-payment of wages is counted as an unfair deduction, and that if not resolved the matter can be taken to an industrial tribunal.

Additionally, if an employer does not pay you as per your contract , you can actually go to the small claims court to reclaim the money. There is also the option to sell the debt to a debt collection agency, as employees are counted as creditors.

• You say the payroll staff seem oblivious - which means they don't know, but you don't say if they seem surprised - it could just be a payroll cockup.
• There are delays sometimes. just send a rep from the employee to make sure it was just a mistake and not going to be a huge problem.

I am living in UK and I wanted to make a payment abroad which is in USD. Can anyone help me the best payment method where I will have to pay less commission charges? What is advisable? TT, western union, Paypal?? I dont know what??

The best option would be a credit card payment because you could make it online or over the phone and would probably be covered by cardholder insurance in case of any problems with the sale (depending on your card provider, of course). If you can't use a credit card Paypal would probably be the best second option as you will have full documentary evidence of the transaction, again, in case anything goes wrong.

• paypal is about the best with western union anyone can pick up the money and you cant trace it with paypal if you have a problem you can contact them
