If a cheque is paid in to a bank and cleared is there anyway it can be traced back to the issuer.?

I mean there is physically no cheque once its cleared, or does the cheque number show on your account??

Yes it can be traced back for several years (tax !) If you want to receive money with no trace, use cash.

  • cheque number shows on the statement of the person who issued the cheque, the recipriant's statement only shows the amount paid in.

    Its always been like that, is this your first cheque? or are you paying for something by cheque instead of cash in hand?
  • the Bank certainly can trace it - for over 7 years.
